Just 45 minutes from Santiago and 30 minutes from Valparaíso lies the Casablanca Valley, belonging to the V Region. The valley extends for approximately 24 kilometres from the Zapata Tunnel to the Sanctuary of Lo Vásquez. In the heart of the Coastal Range, it has an area of 22,000 hectares, of which 5,000 are dedicated to plantations of wine grapes, mostly white varieties. This valley is characterised by its temperate climate and the strong influence of the sea, which serves to moderate temperatures in both winter and summer.
Among the Viña Morandé vineyards, one of the most outstanding is the Belén Estate, located in the middle of the Casablanca Valley, in the highly-prized sector of Lo Ovalle. It consists of 130 hectares which were planted in two stages: the first in the year 2004 and the second in 2005, both between the months of October and December. This vineyard is unique in Chile, in that it has a planting density of 10,101 plants/hectare, which enables us to obtain grapes with more highly-concentrated aromas and flavours.
Since the year 1982 when it was discovered by our Winemaking Director, Pablo Mornadé, the Casablanca Valley has achieved a position in Chile and the world as the best wine-producing valley in Chile for the making of white wines, particularly Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The most distinguished reds are Pinot Noir and cold-climate Syrah.
